This is me about 6 years ago. I worked in an office as the sole graphic designer creating designs and packaging for multiple product lines. And I loved it. Not just the creative side but the technical side too. Packaging design requires a 3D perspective with attention to the limitations of the materials being used. Okay, let me pull myself back a little before I get all geeky and start describing the fine technical aspects of shrink wrap. Anyway, then COVID hit, and everything went to sh...well, you know.
So, fast forward to career #2. Amazon. An Amazon fulfillment center to be exact. 10 hours days lifting heavy boxes in a dusty warehouse while operating heavy machinery. I know, sounds awesome, right? Actually, it is one of the best things that has happened to my career life. Okay, you’re probably thinking, just how many boxes have hit her in the head? Well, a couple but that is beyond the point. Anyway, working for Amazon has taught me leadership and teamwork skills that have expanded my skill sets in a way that sitting at a desk could not. I managed a department which became #1 in the region for 9 months straight (insert applause here) and started a donation program that has contributed to our local community. But most of all, I grew as an employee and a person.
But at the end of the day, there are only a few things that I truly love. My family, traveling, giving back to the community, and... graphic design.
